[It's late at night that the video feed opens. The thief is there, not remembering proper camera etiquette again, with a finger held up to his smiling lips. "Be quiet," he seems to be asking. Not that it would save him.

While he's requesting quiet, he himself is haphazardly humming a soft, haunting melody, the title of which he will swear to the day that he dies that he doesn't know. For a man who hasn't spoken to God in years, his humming is strangely reverent.

The viewers soon realize why.

The thief removes himself from the video feed, presenting a scale replica of a cathedral that some may recognize as the forever incomplete Sagrada Familia, the magnum opus of the deceased architect, Gaudi. Done up entirely in matchsticks and glue, and delicately standing on the coffee table in front of Lupin's zebra print sofa, it is but a faint echo of the original's majesty.

Astute observers will notice something different about it--it doesn't look as incomplete as it is in real life. The thief comes back into view, smiling.

There are secrets lingering just beneath the surface of his gaze. He will say nothing that will indicate what, though.]

Beautiful, isn't it. Been feeling a little nostalgic, for some reason. I thought the Old Man would appreciate it.

It is. It's a basilica in Barcelona that's been under construction for over a century, called the Sagrada Familia. I'm not religious myself, but I make a special exception for this.

And you made it out of...[ she leans towards the journal, peering ] matchsticks. Are those matchsticks? Is that a fire hazard?

Better part of a month. Who needs a normal sleep schedule when you're thinking too much?

And I'm not a pyro, but fire can be a very useful tool.

Useful? Absolutely. Ditto for churches.

Churches are useful for more than places of worship? [Or convenient places to store artifacts you don't want found? Lupin is guilty of this.]

Indeed~ They were places to go for safety way back when, but religious people aren't always that kind anymore.

I'm not talking about the people; I'm talking about the buildings themselves. The walls and the crosses and many handy fonts of holy water. A place like that...?

[ a deep breath. ] A place like that can be safe.

Safe from the undead perhaps. But, those don't literally exist where I'm from.

...though, I understand that it's not always the case...what, with the 'other world' thing and all.

Well, there's also the fact that they have such...sturdy walls. Very siege-worthy.

Indeed. You couldn't fake your death by falling through that roof. You'd smack the roof itself and really die!

...That's gloomy.

It's always good to know where not to go if you ever wanted to fake your death.

I'm still caught up on the part where anyone'd actually want to fake their own death.

[ having died for real? it's...mostly a bummer to talk about. ]

It's as useful a tool as fire, sometimes. There are situations where a plan can only go through if people think you're dead.

...But then there's the part where people think you're dead.

Like I said. Useful sometimes.

Probably. But, when people are out to kill you anyway, it can be easier. No one expects it when you make your grand reappearance and take care of your job before they can stop you.

What about friends? Family?

My friends are my family, and they're generally on the job too. They understand the reasons, even if they wrestle me even after I tap out later.

And they forgive you?

We point guns at each other as often as we work together. It's a strange relationship, but it works.
