11th Turn [Written/Action]

Two things:
1. Whoever it was that found my work shop, return the pieces that you stole before the end of the day. I’ll be in the Barracks. If you fail to comply, I will find you.

2. What do the rest of you think about the last Shift? Was it good or bad? How did the loss of memory affect you? Do you think it left any long-term impact for yourself, your friends, and the rest of your stay in this village?

I have a problem and I’d like a second opinion on it. It’s not big, but it could become complicated.
-I’d promise coffee, but I have an unrelated problem with getting it. I’ll be in the barracks.
[True to his word, Lupin will be in the barracks all day. His encounter with Spock on Monday, combined with his activities from earlier in the week had finally caught up to him. Fatigue was inevitable. He had spent the better part of the last few days asleep, never very far from his new charge. The veritable plague of crows that had been set upon him by an angered god was an unnecessary incentive. He kept the windows shut, locked away the gnawing need for a cigarette that bit at the back of his mind, and tried to ignore the judgement he saw reflected in the eyes of his avian watchmen—but he would have stayed close to the barracks regardless of their looming (and aggravating) presence.
While the days spent between dreams and fleeting considerations over recent affairs had rejuvenated him, it didn't stop the inherent restlessness that was his constant foe—the core problem that would never entirely leave. The people who knew him would be able to identify the briskness of his step and the cool control with which he held every action and every word. He was distracted by a new project , one that was completely foreign to him, and was unwilling to divulge details until the proper time came.

I have no voice right now. Shift effect. Abduction.
[A flash of the empty room he was contained in whipped through his mind--and the extreme isolation for several days straight. He could handle torture better. It was easier to insult his captors.]
It was like this during that shift, and we discovered that his telepathy was the easiest way to communicate. It works through touch, and we maintained physical contact for an extended period of time.
We remembered toward the end. Me first, because of my souvenirs. He was concerned that our contact left a more permanent effect, but it was worse for him than I.
No control. He has trouble filtering without his shields. He is now unconscious. No, healing trance. He said that he would be out of service for a few days, but his explanation sounded like it was normal.
[They reached the little room he had set up in the back, complete with extra blankets and a space heater. He had been relying on instinct and what he could recall of that television show, but the continued sleep had him concerned.
Spock's anatomy was also wholly different. It was important for Law to take a look regardless of Spock's condition.]

[There is a man back here. Black haired, pale skinned (with a green tinge to it?), slanted eyebrows (much more pronounced than Law's), and pointy eared. Not human. Just as Lupin said.
How far from human was the question as he knelt for an examination.
An inhumanly rapid pulse? The first clue. The heart where a liver should be. The second. Many different things just apparent from a quick check that Law knew he was going to need to go straight to Nala. Trying to do things the traditional way would not work - this man's physiology was unlike the sapient species at home.
He notes telepath and empath, and activates his own Haki to see if he could sense anything of note. And then when Lupin says that this man was a touch telepath, he slowly takes his fingers away. He wants gloves.]
Permanent as in a permanent link?
[Action] Oh, such a handy site...
He frowned at the question and wrote out another note. It was backwards, time consuming, and it made him want to punch the scientist who thought it was funny to take away his voice for a while...but it was there. He had to deal with it.]
Unknown. It's bad when you can feel the nervousness of an otherwise very stoic man. He passed out before we could determine anything for certain.

He seems healthy enough from what I can tell, and Nala will help him, but frankly his physiology even from this brief examination is alien. I'm not qualified to make any final judgement on his condition. Not without much more information on what I'm dealing with.
Did he tell you anything about himself?

he didn't say any specific, but he has me in a strange position. there's a work of fiction back home that features him as one of the leading characters. it didn't say much about his people or his culture because it focused on the adventures of him, his captain, and their spacefaring crew.
not human, from a desert planet. very different culture. intense emotional control.
his blood is green. does that mean anything to you?
[Of all the times that Lupin wished he had been more of a fan of the show, or that he had tried harder to focus on the betamax recordings that his mentor brought for him after a job gone wrong. Recovering from injuries had set his restlessness spiraling beyond its normal levels, and it had been very difficult to focus at that time.]

It's not iron based hemoglobin that is running through there, that's for sure.
[Hmph. Oh great. He's going to be stuck on Nala until he can wake this guy up and question him.]

I'm going to see if I can determine anything with my Haki. If it doesn't work, somebody with more developed abilities of a psychic nature is going to have to take a try.

Though he was almost a specialist in that field, Lupin was hesitant to even ask. Too much was at stake, and he wasn't sure that he would be able to trust Luke with anything that was so personal for a while.]

With this crazy thing that he's not sure will work.
He activates his Haki, focusing in with Kenbunshoku. Narrowing his focus. In, in, shutting out Lupin, he reaches for the feel of Spock's soul. Law takes one of the man's hands in his own and focuses in further. Further.
Trying to sense what can be sensed.]

Only a conversation with Marco about Fiery Death Ball gave him an idea, but he wasn't on very good terms with the Phoenix...based solely on personality conflicts.
He stayed close by, in case something came up that he could help with. The absurdity of the situation didn't detract from the fact that Lupin had taken Spock under his care. He wasn't going anywhere.]

[Law's eyes scrunch together. Something feels slightly broken here. The man's spirit is rising, and as far as Law can tell, he'll come out of this. But. There is this taint of damage about his soul and mind that Law can't quantify and frankly doesn't have the experience to start making heads or tails of.
All he can discern is the breaks.]
He'll come out of this. Give him more time. [Spoken trance like] There's damage in his mind and I don't know how to begin fixing it, but he'll wake up.

[He huffed softly in agitation when the lingering effect became apparent once again. A note card would be useless on Law as he was in that moment, but that left Lupin with little way to conveniently communicate. Lupin reached out a hand, but paused in hesitation--it was bad form to just take a liberty like this, especially since they were both extremely private men--but he was concerned for both Spock and Law himself. Though he trusted Law to know his limits, he knew the potential dangers first hand. That broke his hesitation.
He set his hand lightly on Law's shoulder. It was a small gesture, meant to convey both his gratitude and his unvoiced questions.]

It had been a... strange experience. One, even now Law wonders if it should have worked like it did. Perhaps this man's telepathy helped. Perhaps it was all Law. He doesn't feel anything lingering and he might ask Marco later if he knew of Haki acting this way.]
I'm fine.
[Action]
Another note was scratched out, not without pause in the middle, and was passed over after allowing a few moments for Law to collect himself.]

[He's looking up. A simple yes or no head shake will do.
Law releases Spock's hand and proceeds to cover the Vulcan up. Then he finds a more comfortable position to sit. The man looks fine, eyes clear and alert, and whatever effects he'd suffered from his look have been cast away with the shake.]

Lupin swallowed his frustrations at his continued difficulties in properly communicating and likewise found a seat. He had a feeling that this explanation would take longer than getting anything that sounded sane and reasonable from Marco.]

[And then he begins to explain what Haki is and what exactly he did here. It's a concise, organized explanation... well as concise as he can make it.
It's still a lot to go over though. Slumbering power that everyone should possess, yes a lot of pirates (and Smoker) are a little bit psychic, the works.]

Of course he would be curious.
His attempts at note-taking quickly became foiled as the explanation drew on, until it hit a point where he had to set his tools down to simply listen. It explained a lot of the subtle factors that he had witnessed from just distant observation, such as Law's uncanny ability to locate him after he had told no one of his whereabouts.
Another note was passed off at the end of the explanation, with just two simple questions.]
does this exist across the board, or is it specific to the physics of your home?

the haki thing could be an interesting thing to study if it comes up. if. it might not.
Did you want me to bring Spock in for a physical once he's more [a pause of consideration.] stable?

[Although if it did, he would have to see what people had in mind when it came to 'studying'. Unsurprisingly, that was a sensitive subject to tread on for him and likely the other pirates (and Smoker).]
I would. We'll need to have a long talk about medical needs for his species. Frankly he'll throw all of us in the clinic for a loop.
You will also need to tell him what I did.

Lupin nodded for both comments. He suspected as much, which was why he didn't contact Law sooner. The Battle Dome was in all likelyhood frighteningly underprepared for Spock should he be gravely injured.
He was also fully prepared to tell Spock about Law's cursory examination and about the haki. It was only fair, and he wasn't sure how he could keep anything quiet from Spock any longer.
It was an uncomfortable, even concerning prospect for him. After the fight with Luke and Adele, he was questioning his every decision. Perhaps it had been a mistake to place that much faith in them. He didn't know.
He didn't like not knowing.]
that was the plan. we can talk about that mission at a different time if you're busy. I'm curious about what you found.
we also should get coffee. and we need to stop meeting like this.

I think we better break that habit, yes. This goes on, people will think we only meet up when things hit the fan.
