9th Turn [Semi-accidental Video/Action]

[His head hurt.

It was the first problem that Lupin noticed when he awoke in the woods that afternoon, clad only in the pale New Feather garb that all Lucetian’s are granted upon arrival. The sun was too bright and his head hurt, but it was nothing like all of those jobs where he faced everything from bullets to nuclear materials in crystalline form. Simple pain like this was something to be dealt with at a later time, when there was a moment to think and breathe. He had something more important to check on.

Or a group of someones. The thief sat up with the limber energy of a gymnast—and regretted it. The world seemed to shift without his consent and refused to stabilize despite his willing it to do so. He gritted his teeth and pulled himself up; it was just vertigo, probably from being still for too long…

Dealing with a little light headedness was nothing like his stint Cagliostro, both the first and the second time. At least he didn’t need to worry about Fujiko laughing at him. He took one step, two, digging his fingers into the rough bark of the trees for support as he fought against his vision hazing in and out with the vertigo. It was just from being out for too long. A few more steps and he’d--

--

--collapse into the earth’s embrace.

Lupin stared dumbfounded at the canopy for a breath. He burst into laughter when everything clicked into place.]

That’s right. I died.

[In the facility, with the others. Pops and Fujiko and Adele all told him that this could happen. Hell, he knew it from the outset during that midnight meeting in what should have been the Alps. It was a risk he willingly took, along with the moral implications and responsibilities. No regrets.

It just made life a great deal more complicated.

Death was cheap, however. He didn’t have to spend thousands of dollars on a satin-lined hardwood casket with white lilies piled on top for posterity. A little dizziness was an excellent trade off. Still choking back childish giggles at the absurdity of the situation, Lupin forces himself to sit up again and fight the rolling haze long enough to locate his journal. He gratefully collapsed back into the dirt once he had it in hand, and was doubly grateful when the realization struck that he was fine if he just stayed still. Any little motion sent his mind spinning, but he could think straight if he just stayed and stared up at the canopy.]

[The feed was thrown on without a glance, suddenly treating the residents of the enclosure to a blindingly bright view of the forest from below. The thief himself was not aware if the feed was audio or video—nor did he care. No filters were added, lest he risk another wave of vertigo with just the act of sitting up. It was too much of a bother, especially when the sky was so blue.

Let other people worry about that for now.]

Hey, Lu-ce-ti~ [His tone was oddly humorous and light, with his suppressed laughter hiding just behind his words.] I’m back. [And alive.]

Can anyone around here spare a smoke? Not menthol and filtered, that’s all I want. Oh, and a light.

…who wants to go fishing?

((ooc: Nothing on this post is filtered and nothing will be filtered unless other characters put them up. Work under the assumption that everything said in this post via the journals is fully readable to everyone unless it is filtered, and threadjack away if you wish.

The actual act of picking Lupin up from the woods is locked to Luke Skywalker, though further action may take place around Community House 5 or the Battle Dome. For those with the lie-detect ability or something similar, you are thus warned that most things Lupin will say on non-filtered conversations is a complete lie.

With that noted, have at.))

"I prefer Green as well."

Luke lets Lupin go, and gives Law a worried look as Lupin stumbles. This was pretty bad, like a bad case of hyperspace bends. He shook his head and followed the thief, ready to catch him should he fall.

"Definitely impaired motor functions. I've seen this before after long periods spent in hyperspace. It may be a problem with his inner ear messing up equilibrium"

"Most certainly." Law opens the door to the examination room and removes the pouch containing loose tea leaves from the pot on the counter. The variety of green he's brewing is with mint in the brew - Itachi's favorite blend, and requiring a bit longer to steep as it wasn't one of the more delicate teas Law and Itachi kept at their home.

The expression on the man's face is thoughtful as he observes. Probably the penalty right there, but he wouldn't say that until he was certain. For the moment he would pour the tea into insulated paper cups.

"Okay. Up on the bed. Let's give your head a chance to stop spinning before I give you a physical."
thefinaljedi: (Careful...)

"So is Hyperspace Sickness, Lupin, but that doesn't make it any less serious," Luke stated flatly.

Deflecting, whining, they weren't going to do anyone any good. Luke could feel the thief's frustration as soon as he touched the other man. This whole thing smacked of unnatural interference.

"I bet." He offers the tea to Lupin. "Here, drink this. Slowly now... I'll get you some food in a bit." Don't want you getting dehydrated and not risking the chance of losing anything solid yet. Law offers the other cup to Luke, and then pours a third one for himself, while he takes a clipboard and pen.

"Alright. I know you are feeling horrible right now, and that's perfectly natural upon reviving. You should be feeling some improvement in a few hours, given rest and something to drink and eat."

And here he glances down, "You also know that revival comes with a price. Sometimes it's immediately obvious, sometimes it's not." And sometimes it's very dangerous. "I'm going to help you figure it out so it doesn't blindside you."

Luke takes a sip from his own cup, letting the warm liquid overpower his senses as he watches the exchange silently. He's not a doctor, but he does have more than a passing knowledge of medicine thanks to his experience as a soldier. Whatever was up with Lupin reminded him of someone who'd had a thermal detonator go off nearby.

Leaning up against a wall, he watched the doctor go to work.
deathsdoctor: (Curious + Neutral | Pondering this)

"Mn." You don't need to thank me or be in debt to me. Law doesn't do these things for that.

"We're going to start with what you noticed when you woke up as far as symptoms go. More often the penalty is physical rather than anything else so we'll investigate that avenue first."

And now he is absolutely sure it is a physical price. It becomes more and more obvious as Lupin's in front of him.
thefinaljedi: (Concerned)

[Action] Yep

[personal profile] thefinaljedi 2012-07-07 05:47 pm (UTC)(link)
"Yea, it sounds like they upset your equilibrium. The symptoms are consistent enough to point to that."

Luke strokes his chin, pondering the implications of death here. He knew there were penalties, but was this one of them? That was an unsettling thought, several months of bad vertigo...
deathsdoctor: (Neutral | Thoughtful)

[Action] Thanks guys ;;

[personal profile] deathsdoctor 2012-07-10 06:00 am (UTC)(link)
"It sounds like a case of benign paroxysmal positional vertigo so far to me, to be honest, or something very similar. In which the workings of the inner ear are mucked up - yet, unlike other disorders and injuries that effect the vestibular system, there's no hearing loss. Just vertigo, a loss of balance, and everything that comes with that... like nausea."

Except in this case there is no debris in the inner ear canals to disrupt fluid flow. Death Penalties were idiopathic and incurable, save for John.

"There are two tests to confirm such a diagnosis," the roll test and the Dix-Hallpike test, "But based on what I've observed by watching you moving, I don't think they'll be necessary." Vertigo observed with the full range of movement. The tests would tell him nothing new.

[Action] Jedi Creeper...

[personal profile] thefinaljedi 2012-07-10 05:15 pm (UTC)(link)
[Luke listens in silence, waiting for Law's recommendation. He had little to add, but he understood what it all meant. He was a soldier, and a diplomat first, not a doctor despite his healing skill.]
deathsdoctor: (Neutral | You sure?)

[Action] Jedi Creeper...

[personal profile] deathsdoctor 2012-07-12 08:58 am (UTC)(link)
"I can prescribe medication to help lessen the symptoms of dizziness, vertigo, and nausea. Lorazepam is quite effective - but just keep in mind it will only make your condition more bearable; not improve your balance. For that, you're going to need physiotherapy to help you better adapt - balance training in other words. It will take time, but you can learn to compensate for this."

And then he smiles. Because you are not a quitter, Mister Lupin.

"As for the thing you're working on, why should you let this stop you? It only means you're going to have to be more creative how you pull it off."

"Lupin, I've got a proposition. Why don't we move into one of the empty houses in town? At least that way you aren't climbing the stairs to get home every day. That can't be good for you, I'm sure the doctor would agree."

Luke had been thinking about it for a while now, figuring that they could use a bit more space to work, and that Obi-Wan would probably like to have a room to meditate in that wasn't cluttered with droids and hydrospanners.

Nodding, "mm... I'll work out a training regime for you, then." What that actually consists of will be discussed later.

"Not right now, no." Right now, it's asking for a tumble and broken bones if the man tries. "That is a very good idea."

It won't be far, Lupin. I'll start investigating openings tomorrow. For now you're just going to go up stairs on my repulsor sled.

Smoker.

He knew he and Lupin had a friendly sort of relationship, something that caused Law to blink, because the Marine having that kind of a relationship with a criminal was eyebrow raising. But then again Lupin wasn't a pirate and the Marine had a special axe to grind against pirates. To the point (and he thinks of Kairi's murder and the attempt to confiscate Jack Sparrow boat at that time by Smoker instead) where it seemed to becoming clear that pirates were always the priority, and he would even lower himself to become pirate like to exercise that grudge.

Didn't know what to think about Smoker except he was glad to keep his distance from the other man.

"I'll write you a prescription for the Lorazepam, then, and see how that helps. We'll go then from there."

Luke sighs and throws up his hands in mock frustration.

"Alright, but the minute I see you falling, you've got two options. The first is the sled. The second? I'm going to Force-Levitate you up and down the stairs"

Law's lips quirk lightly at the thought of Lupin being floated up and down stairs.

"Sometime soon-ish being tomorrow in fact. I'll give you a night to rest before we get into that whole business."

Which is taking about drug side effects, how you may not drink while taking it, when to take, why he's giving you such a low dosage of it (you have to be really careful with it for long term use)... etc, etc.
