[Residents of Community House 5 may have noticed a flurry of activity from a furtive man in red recently, predominantly in the wee hours of the morning or in the dead of night. The sounds of haphazard bumps and thwacks may have woken them up on ocassion, and the lingering scent of gunpowder may have made them wonder what the hell was going on in that room on the sixth level of the building.

Don't worry. It's just the resident master thief, Arsene Lupin III, finally moving out of Inspector Zenigata's apartment and into his own, conducting a little mad science while in the process.

...and not everything is going as planned for him. A loud explosion bursts from room #30, breaking the peace of the wintery way. Smoke follows, billowing forth from the windows.

There's a lot of swearing in French.

More, smaller booms follow. The sound of doors slamming, bodies falling, and feet running through the corridors can be heard.

...

Sorry, Luceti. Lupin will stop trying to make smoke bombs for a while.]

Voice:

Yeah. Sorry about that. I'm just doing science here...

[A thud--something big has fallen.]

Don't worry--I have it under control. I'm a professional, you know!

[The feed cuts out with more gratuitous swearing as another large something or other falls over.]

[So it's a funny story, really. Obi-Wan here is just skimming through this here newfangled journal thing, see, reading logs and listening to broadcasts, and he happens across a familiar voice. More significantly, one in a pretty severe degree of distress. I mean, how crazy is that?]

"Lupin? This is Obi-Wan Kenobi. Not sure if you recall, you helped me when I first arrived. Are you alright? Do you need any assistance?"

[Oh! That's a familiar voice!]

Just had a slight technical malfunction, but everything's perfectly fine up here. We're fine. We're all fine. How are you?

"My sensitivity to the force may be compromised, Lupin, but I do retain my more mundane ability to tell when somebody's not being entirely truthful. Where are you? I'll come and assist you."

Community House 5, floor 6, room 30.

...You know that thing that happens when there's a spark in a room that's completely clouded with flour or gunpowder? Yeah, that's what happened. I got it, though. You don't have to come, Obi-wan.

[Especially since Luke Skywalker is directly below his neighbor.]

[Community house 5, floor 6, room... but... if he remembered Luke right, that was practically right above them!]

"I owe you one anyway, for helping me out. I'll be right up. You're just one story up."

[The journal closes before Lupin could offer a protest or comment.]

[A few moments later, Obi-Wan has made his way up the stairs to room 30 and stands at the doorway, knocking. Fortunately, his rebreather was in the item shop, so he's not choking to death. Unfortunately, he only has the one.]

[Lupin is a habitual smoker and has survived through hundred-story falls and collapsing skyscrapers--a little fire caused by airborn sucrose caught aflame is not going to kill him. He doesn't die easily.

Instead, he's grinning in delight as he opens the door. The inferno is mostly contained...but the smoke is evident, and the man himself is covered in soot. Only his jacket is unharmed, because he had the sense to throw it onto the zebra-print sofa in the middle of the living room.]

Obi! Hey!

...You don't have a fire extinguisher on you, do you?

[Right. He knew he'd forgotten something. Among other things, he'd forgotten that smothering flames with the Force doesn't work if you've lost your connection with the Force.]

"... I have a cloak?"

[My word, that was a lot of smoke...]

[The master criminal is so impressed with you, Obi-Wan, that he can't even muster a smile. So much for being prepared, huh?]

...That's not gonna work.

[He hands Obi-Wan a bucket.]

We're gonna drown these flames!

[Aww, poor Obi-Wan. It's not his fault The Force tends to give its users a Hammer Complex.]

"Err. Right. Sorry, I had meant to..." [Master of the Jedi Order. On the High Council. He was smarter than this, blast it all...] "Bucket. Water. Of course."

[He accepts the bucket, looking suitably embarrassed, and immediately seeks out a source of water.]

[If Obi-Wan had gotten a lay of the building over the last few days, he'd know that the communal kitchens on every level were at the other end of the hall. Lupin himself has been running back and forth with buckets of water--it seems to be working okay, mostly.]

It's my bad--don't apologize! [He's not mad. He's just trying to contain the blaze.]

[In which case, Obi-Wan will immediately join him in fetching and retrieving buckets. All the while thinking how much bloody easier this would be if he could still use the Force.]

[Don't worry about it, Obi-wan. Lupin can handle fires. He's even set a few people on fire before. He's laughing as he runs around, drowning the flames that are persistently fighting for survival.]

So..Obi. You do this kind of thing often?

[Because small talk is exactly what's needed right now.]

[Mad. There's no other explanation for it, he's utterly mad.]

"Not this precise sort of thing, but yes, I suppose aiding those in crisis is my primary role in the galaxy."

[As soon as he inhales again, he remembers why he needed the rebreather, and he only barely manages to suppress the coughing fit long enough to reinsert it. He has no idea how Lupin hasn't passed out by now from the smoke.]

[Don't worry about the madness, Obi-Wan. Lupin has that effect on people. So does Luceti. Good luck.]

So, this fits in with your job description then! [He's strangely calm for a man who accidentally set his apartment on fire. The adrenaline kept his mind alert, and his nerves calm--he lived for crises. The fire starts to abate under the repeated process of dousing them.

No worries. They aren't going to die of smoke inhalation.]

"Well, typically this sort of thing would be much easier. And waste less water."

[Another bucket on another burning patch.]

"...And likely do more to limit the damage, at that. Lupin, am I mistaken, or has that wall lost most of its structural integrity?"

Oh, that's just my best buddy next door. He's not gonna be too pissed.

[He kicks at a not-inflamed portion of the wall in question, for emphasis. The force knocks a hole in it.]

Oops.

[Not going to be too angry? That sounds... familiar.]

"If you need help repairing it, my schedule is fairly empty."

Everyone's schedule is fairly empty around here, Obi-Wan. But, if you want to help, I won't complain.

"Then help I shall."

[His grin quickly vanishes when a bit of smolder suddenly flares back into fiery life, and dashes off for more water again.]
