I suppose the closest thing to learning another language here that would be useful would be another system of communication, like Morse code or something along those lines.

I can teach you that. I can also teach you some hand signals to use in the field. You wouldn't believe how handy they are on jobs that require stealth and silence.

I would appreciate that. Especially considering the situations the Malnosso might decide to toss us into, that sort of knowledge could make everything progress smoothly.

I've only been on the one--the sailing mission with Adele on the Tyr's Revenge. Law was our captain, after a fashion, and it was one helluva wild ride.

Don't go too far out at see here, Sabi-chan. There be krakens in them depths.

[A sailing mission doesn't sound like a stealth mission to her...perhaps in Lupin's original world he did something similar to what Red said he had done.]

What is a 'kraken'?

[Lupin has done a small piece of everything in his home, just not to the same extent as many of the specialists in Luceti. The mission on the ship was little more than a transport run, but it wasn't unfamiliar territory. Lupin knew boats, and it was always a joy for him to go sailing.

A kraken is an exceptionally large octopod. If you want an idea of how large, take a minute to imagine the largest squid you can think of.

Then, you make it bigger.

That's a kraken.

So it's a gigantic squid.

[Now that is a pretty unnerving image. She can imagine why it would be terrifying.]

I bet it could feed a lot of people.

Why not? If it's just a large squid then it should be edible.

[He dislikes octopods. Violently. If she would recall a bout of childish screaming from the beach party, she would know that it came from him because of a confrontation with a little one.

[Sabriel might have heard it but she had no idea where it had come from. Still with that look he's giving her she can't help but chuckle a little.]

Haven't you had squid before? In a stew or grilled or anything? It's delicious!

I've had a few very bad encounters with squid and octopi, Sabriel. They're weird and they make me sick. Literally.

Ah, that's fair enough. I suppose the texture could be off-putting if you're not used to it, but I love seafood.

What about you? What's your favourite food then?

I do like most seafood in general--just not calamari. [Never calamari.]

Actually, naming my favorite food is harder than naming my least favorite food. Pizza is always a good go-to, but I'm really fond of the the dishes I tried when I lived in Barcelona. It's one of the cities I've come the closest to calling home, and the escudellas there will always be something I look forward to when I go back between jobs.

Pizza...that's the flat bread baked with the variety of toppings right? What are the 'escudellas' like?

Yea, that's right. Escudella is a kind of soup--a very hearty one, with vegetables from the region and botifarras-a kind of sausage-- in it.

It's just a simple thing, but its nice to have.

Some of the best foods are the simplest ones. After a hard day's work it's difficult to beat a good stew with some crusty bread.

I wonder if Sanji could make that in the restaurant.

Probably! Doesn't he like food of that sort anyway?

I think so, it did seem to come up a lot on the menu. He's very good at putting together well balanced meals.

Shall I make a request for you the next time I bring you back some lunch?

That'd be nice, but don't inconvenience yourself for it. The fact that you're even bringing me food is kind enough!

It's no inconvenience at all Red, you're only a couple of steps from my house and all I'd need to do is mention it to Sanji before my shift is up.

[Her offer was yet another small debt to add to the pile of debts that he wasn't sure how to pay back. He would figure out how, someday, but for that moment the only thing he could do was smile.]
