12th Turn [Voice/Action]

Hey, guys.

[His voice sounded weary but oddly content and calm. For the first time in a long time, he felt like he was starting to understand something.]

I was thinking about something, actually. A couple of somethings. It's getting to be winter and, by my count, there's going to be a few holidays coming up for many of us. I know not all of us celebrates them the same way...but, at the same time, many of us can't celebrate them as we used to. We don't have the same traditions around here, or the same people.

...What I thought I would do was try to arrange a fun get-together in a few weeks for people who just want to relax and have some fun. There won't be any rules or ties to tradition, but there will be people. Tis the season to be with people you like, right?

Right.

[At this point he pauses to throw on a filter, just to tease someone:]

My other thought was to throw a surprise party for my girl. Mine Fujiko, for those who know her. It doesn't need to be anything big or fancy, but I want it to be special. She's been here for a long time.

I'm still trying to figure out how we're doing the food and finding our venue, but I'd love to hear any ideas that you guys have. Cake should be involved here. Seriously. Otherwise, I'm completely open to any idea.

[While the sun is still out, Lupin decided to head out into the town to check for some better winter gear in the various shops. He's not picky. Later on he can be found enjoying a hot drink at the bakery before he returns back to his apartment in Community House 1. He is keeping an eye out for both Grell and Gambit during this time.

He needed to rework plans with them.]

[Keeps trying to hack that filter. She can tell it's there. She will get it eventually Lupin. What are you hiding?! But for now, she pretends to be cool, like she isn't hacking anything at all.]

Well, they might do the Christmas ball again, or did you mean something different?

The Christmas ball? That's still too rigid, too traditional. I'm looking for something that doesn't require people to dress in formal wear just to drink wassail and do some ballroom dancing.

[Spock had been scarce lately, either shut up in his room or out doing... whatever it is Vulcan's tend to do. Namely working on his project at either the dome or out of his lab at his house... but he always came back to Lupin's apartment at the end of the day.
That particular evening Spock is in 'his' room... But out on the kitchen table there is a rather inconspicuously wrapped item...

Beside it there is a card that states simply...

You're just jealous because Zenigata's a better dancer.

[The chill had gotten to him--the frigid air was always like a blade, but this time it only aggravated the lingering cold that he had known was coming since the summer. Too many cigarettes were bad, and he had all but turned into a chain smoker in recent months.

Oh, would Jigen be proud...

He tried to muffle a cough when he entered and mentally kicked himself at the futility. He wanted to get out, but he knew that the weather would be just as much of a bother as the activity. The last several days spent in or around the apartment had helped, but this was one of those colds that he knew would last for a little while.

He could deal.

Huffing a breath in frustration at himself, he set his bags down regarded the package on the coffee table. 'From Spock,' it read. Though, for all of his guessing, he couldn't figure out why he was receiving anything. Lupin pulled off his gloves and unwound his scarf before he picked up the package and wandered over to Spock's 'room.'

The man was in. He could feel it.]

Hey. What's going on?

[Have fun.]

Hey, it's not my fault that you always choose to dance with him.

[Spock was deep in meditation, so you are going to have to try harder than that.]

[The silence was enough of an answer for Lupin. He shifted the package from one hand to the other and opened the door. He sighed at what he saw and wondered why he even bothered to be surprised anymore. After nearly a month of living with the man under his roof, Lupin knew that Spock was a busy man who periodically turned to his meditations. Normally he let Spock do his thing.

Normally.

Lupin set the package down on Spock's bed and crouched before him with an expression of flat observation. Swiftly, but gently, he poked a finger at Spock's forehead.

More insistently:]

Hey.

[She will! Sort of. It's actually frustrating.]

Like I said. Better dancer.

[Like hell she'll admit she was just jealous about the mistletoe thing.]

[THAT got Spock's attention as his eyes snapped open and he gasped in surprise.]

[He looks up at Arsene...]

Sa-kai?

[Spock was genuinely happy on the inside to see Lupin around the apartment once again...using his actual voice. Being in the house with only Fujiko as company had been... a rather interesting experience to say the least.]

[Spock waits for an explanation.

...is that a challenge?

Yeah, it's me.

[He's just been tired and a little ill for the last week. No biggie. Lupin reached over for the package once more to show to Spock, not unkindly.]

What's the occasion?

[There was nothing but curiosity in his tone.]

[Spock tilts his head in curiosity... but a small green blush does stain his cheeks. He is not used to expressing sentiment.]

While you were gone I had an opportunity to speak with Miss Fujiko. She informed me that two pertinent occasions were coming up for you. I decided to take part.

[Spock studied Lupin's face for a moment...] You are not well...[It was not a question. And how had he not noticed before.]

Nothing I haven't dealt with before. [He waved off the concern.] Smokers. It was inevitable since I started to hit them hard over the last few months. Gonna try to lay off a bit more now.

[It was a baseline, easy explanation. His coughing was fine if he didn't exert himself too heavily.

Spock's admission of having spoken with Fujiko didn't surprise him either. It was also inevitable, but he did wonder how well they got on. It was obvious that they had a reasonable conversation, since Spock was still in the apartment, but that still didn't account for Fujiko's possible antics.

He would have to talk to her later. Especially since he never celebrated anything on his own.]

I...see.

[Spock raises an eyebrow in skepticism...]

Then I need not remind you to take care of yourself.

[Spock tilts his head in consideration...] You also appeared worried at the interaction between Miss Fujiko and I... you need not be. Though it would seem that we will remain acquaintances only. [Spock is not going to give you any more information than that.]

[Spock looks at the wrapped gift and stands..] If I have done something wrong, I will take it back Arsene... [An uncontrolled wave of..something... passed through Spock's mind at the thought that Lupin did not want his gift... it took him nearly the whole week to make...]

[Oh so tricky...

But the offhand comment and the unspoken fact that Spock would step back was what Lupin needed most at that point, and he smiled gratefully. He didn't need to say it. The uncertainty he felt from Spock at his own hesitation was, however, something that needed immediate attention.

Lupin regarded the package, the shape and the weight of it, and settled onto the floor with his legs crossed. He didn't let go of the gift.]

No. It's nice. I'm just not used to these things.

[He celebrated with a shared bottle of wine, a few laughs, and a happy reunion. Any 'gifts' exchanged were the thrill of the hunt. Lupin smiled at Spock to reassure him that the gesture was indeed welcome before he started to unwrap the packaging.]

Hm~

Yes, actually! Want to prove you can do better?

[It does not mean that Spock would disregard an illness completely... he would keep an eye on it in his own way.]

[Spock was not used to gift exchange either, and when Lupin started to unwrap the gift, he had to illogically remind himself to breath.

[In his mind he kept picturing the gift and wondered if he missed anything...]

[Lupin lets out a long sigh when he sees the violin. He had suspected what it was when he held it, but he hadn't known for certain. He smiled at this, for once without added layers, and regarded Spock.]

...you know, I asked the Malnosso for one of these back in April when I went on a mission for them. It was on a boat, and we were at sea for damn near a week. I flung the Hulk at cultists, and was nearly mauled by a Kraken...and, do you know what they gave me?

A viola. Not quite the same sound there.

How did you know? Not many in the village know that I can play.

[Spock's face practically beams at the approval of the gift... he had been worried.]

You have Miss Fujiko to thank for that once again Sa-kai.... once I found out your musical ability, I set to work right away in anticipation of your arrival. [Spock did not tell Lupin that there was a small inscription in Vulcan on the neck of the instrument... it was difficult to see unless you were looking for it.]
However, the stain only managed to fully dry last night.

[He studied the instrument once more, and whistled at the depth of the craftmanship.]

Impressive work!

[he would have tried himself, had he the inclination...but he was more oriented to playing with technology. The numerous drafts that were piled in the corners of his room and his workshop were clear proof of that.]

...I never pegged you for the sort to do any woodworking.

She's my girl. Of course there will be dancing!

Excellent. It isn't a proper party without dancing.

Unfortunately, I can offer little other help. I am not much of a cook.
