[Souvenirs were important. Though he was never much of a collector at home, Lupin noticed that he was slowly becoming a hoarder during his stay in Luceti. Amassing a collection of souvenirs was just one part of that, but it had spared him from grief at a later date. The amnesia shift, the very one that threw them together, still bothered him...

But he found his souvenir from that experiment in the little device that Spock had given him. The ribbon was a return gesture--and a selfish move. Now Lupin had something by which he could remember two people by, if their memories were erased again.

It was a small piece for Spock to start his own collection.

Lupin similarly tied his, echoing Spock's gesture, and joined him.]
