oh...whoa

[Lupin watched Spock in his stillness, noting the subtle sarcasm and the pedantic curtain that fell in those moments. Though it was easy to forget, he was suddenly reminded that the Vulcan was also a teacher in some capacity--the adventure and the quips from the 1960s television serial overshadowed any hints at non-human cultures. The jabs at politics during the Cold War too precedence over it.

But the reality stood before him in a blue shirt and spoke the truth in far too many words, with a tone that was cool but neutral. Lupin smiled when he noted the humor and uncertainty that lingered just below the service. The connection worked both ways; he had been in Spock's head as well.]

Guess there's no fighting it, huh?

[He snorted in amusement at the continued futility in speaking. It would never stop him from trying, but it was starting to become a persistent and troublesome joke. Humor was always his salvation.

He held his hand out in the open, offering up the little device that sat on his palm. Though still uncertain, he appreciated Spock's understanding and lack of judgement. It was similar to his strange friendship with Vice Admiral Smoker, or the one that was only starting with Trafalgar Law. Words weren't necessary for the truth to be evident.]
